New Year's Eve in Cuenca, Ecuador is different from any other place we have been. Effigies are created in the weeks leading up to the magic day. Almost every family will have one. They write bad things that happened in the prior year that they want to leave behind. At midnight, the streets look like a war zone as all the effigies are lit on fire at the same time.
